Employment opportunity– Project Director position

The Djermaya Solar project is a 30-60MW solar PV project located near N’Djamena, Chad (the "Project"). The development partners include Smart Energies International (France) ("SEI") and Aldwych Africa Developments Ltd ("AADL"), on behalf of InfraCo Africa Ltd (UK).

The development partners are seeking to recruit a talented Project Director to be responsible for managing the successful implementation of the project. Reporting to the Management Committee, and the board/shareholders, you will be involved in a wide range of project management and leadership activities, working together with and managing technical, legal, financial and administrative staff and consultants, to complete key project activities on time and within budget.

The role will involve significant time spent in Chad, (we estimate 50% of the time) and may involve significant travel, including London, Paris and Abidjan. The role would require a minimum availability period of one year starting December 2017.


  • Lead and be responsible for the timely and on budget delivery of all work streams that need to be conducted to reach financial close on the Project, including but not limited to: EPC, EH&S, permitting, off-take, commercial and political insurance, financing (including grant applications), government guarantees and credit enhancements, and also some shareholder matters, thereto:
    • Reviewing and negotiating all project contracts,
    • Drafting internal and external documents including contract reviews, position papers, proposals and letters. Proposing development strategies
    • Foreseeing, and devising ways around, roadblocks and obstacles to the Project development.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Project team members in the sponsor organisations. 
  • Manage the work of the local team members.
  • Coordinate and direct the AADL and SEI teams of specialists and project external consultants.
  • Report to the Project Steering Committee for most matters, and to the Project Company board
    for reserved / shareholder matters

Profile required:

The successful candidate should have at least 10 years of experience relevant to IPP management /development (preferably in Africa), excellent coordination and communication skills in French and English (knowledge of the Arabic language is a plus), sound judgement and good analytical skills and experience with project financing documentation. The ability to operate independently, with gravitas, and overcome cultural differences to solve problems will be vital to success, and, as such, relevant experience in a similar environment will be an important qualification to secure the role.
